May he rest in peace- I had the privilege of meeting him - he told me stories of his adventures in Zimbabwe when he was a young man. He was a modern man who travelled across borders without any hesitation. A very wise man who taught us every time he spoke- hamba kahle umdala Wetu
We deeply mourn the loss of Mzee Mohamed Ega Musa Mohamed, a cherished member of the Eastleigh community, who passed away this morning in Nairobi at the remarkable age of 102 after a brief illness.
He belonged to one of the pioneering families that established roots in Nairobi at the turn of the last century and played a significant role in the founding of Eastleigh, now a thriving Somali business enclave.
Mzee Mohamed, who was born in Eastleigh and worked in British Somaliland, Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) and in Kenya, possessed an encyclopedic knowledge of Nairobi in general and Eastleigh in particular, and his passing brings to mind the African proverb that when an old man dies, a library burns to the ground.
May Allah forgive Mzee Mohamed and elevate his station among those who are guided. May He guide him along the path of those who came before, and may He grant him and us His forgiveness. May Allah expand his resting place and shine light upon it. May Allah grant Mzee Mohamed's family the strength to bear this loss.
KaribUNi - “welcome” is how I felt throughout my stay in Nairobi visiting #UNON. I had the fortune of a guided tour of @UN compound by the knowledgeable Ruth Kandie & Pierre Menager. Thanks to @NewtonKanhema & @unicnairobi for arranging. Thanks also to George Ofunga. Asante 🙏🙏
Why Mangroves:
✅Mangroves, also called the “blue forests,” act as a buffer between land and sea protecting the shoreline and human settlements.
✅About 75 per cent of mangroves worldwide are concentrated in just 15 countries, and barely 7 per cent lie in protected areas.
