I genuinely do not understand why so many supporters of the government are treating Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation as a defeat. It is quite the opposite. A government listening to public sentiment and taking corrective action is not a sign of weakness. This is exactly how a democracy is supposed to work.

The students are heard, families who suffered because of systemic failures receive at least some measure of acknowledgement, and the government has an opportunity to demonstrate that it is willing to course-correct when circumstances demand it.

In politics, accountability is not capitulation. It strengthens institutions and, if anything, reinforces the legitimacy of a government.
