In January, we launched the first Account Abstraction protocol for the Bitcoin ecosystem.
Less than 30 lines of code and users can leverage a custom, Bitcoin-specific smart account authenticated by their native Bitcoin wallet within your application.
One singular, unified interface to native Bitcoin or a Bitcoin Layer-2/Sidechain, such as @BSquaredNetwork, @MerlinLayer2, @rootstock_io, etc.
This means that you can essentially move from something like @OrdinalsMarket_ (on native Bitcoin) to @MerlinSwap (on Merlin) or @SovrynBTC (on Rootstock) with the same wallet (such as @unisat_wallet).
Two clicks to unlock the entire Bitcoin-adjacent EVM ecosystem, powered by @erc4337 account abstraction.
WHY?
EVM-compatible Bitcoin Layer-2s and sidechains are undoubtedly major innovations in the ecosystem; they bring Turing completeness alongside the existing (vast) ecosystem of EVM tools.
Although they may be computationally bound to Bitcoin, they often feel isolated from end-users.
Imagine if Ethereum used a completely different account structure and, therefore, an ecosystem of wallets than chains like Arbitrum or Optimism.
It'd feel disconnected, and the underlying experience would be fragmented. This is the issue that the current Bitcoin Layer-2 ecosystem faces.
In recognition of this, a simple solution presents itself:
@erc4337 account abstraction.
HOW?
Smart accounts within the ERC-4337 standard are owned by EOAs (standard accounts bound by a private key) - they exist as interfaces in this sense, with arbitrary signing authority.
Thus, this begs the question: why not use EOAs that are computationally equivalent to native Bitcoin accounts as the signers (owners) for smart accounts?
By doing this, signatures generated by Bitcoin accounts can be directly converted to valid signatures for a custom smart account built to handle such conversion.
And suddenly, native Bitcoin wallets have direct access (through this signing authority) to an interface with the entire EVM-compatible Bitcoin Layer-2 ecosystem.
Same wallet, same account, now used as the signer for a smart account deployed on a chain like @BTClayer2.
WHAT?
This is exactly what we built at @ParticleNtwrk with BTC Connect.
A Modular Operation Stack for the Bitcoin ecosystem facilitating wallet connection across native Bitcoin and Bitcoin Layer-2s through wallets users are already familiar with.
For an end-user, the experience is virtually the same; instead, now, for EVM chains, they're given an associated smart account address (signed for by the Bitcoin wallet).
This effectively unifies the experience within the Bitcoin ecosystem and brings significant volumes of users directly into ERC-4337 smart accounts, benefitting not only from the unified interface (of their Bitcoin wallet) but also the intrinsic benefits of account abstraction.
🛠️
There's a ton happening within the Bitcoin ecosystem; thousands of new developers are pouring into some of these recently launched Bitcoin Layer-2s (and soon-to-launch chains), taking advantage of (what I would consider to be at least) next-generation infrastructure.
Pumped that we can contribute to that growth.
