Muchiri wants us to believe Julia Njoki didn’t die in police custody, she just got arrested by police, taken to court by police, remanded through police processes, and somehow ended up dead a few days later, but apparently, once she crossed the prison gate, the state’s hands were magically clean

This is coming from Michael Muchiri, the current National Police Service Spokesperson, the same man who publicly admitted that police lied about the death of Albert Ojwang, they first claimed it was self-harm, then an autopsy revealed head trauma, neck compression, and bruises, so when he asks the public to believe this version too, without a postmortem, without independent verification, it becomes hard not to laugh

At this point, they’re not clarifying, they’re distancing, and if your defence to every death is “technically, it wasn’t our cell”, then the real problem isn’t where people are dying, it’s who keeps sending them there to die, and we just hope this time, the postmortem isn’t cooked.

Every injustice is a seed and we are watching them grow.
