Sticking to biblical convictions often seems to lose in the immediate moment. But in the long run, God always vindicates the faithful. Truth always prevails.
MFA programs might be homogenizing novels.
@ErikpHoel has written: "Workshop-trained writers are often, not always, but often, intrinsically defensive. This single fact explains almost all defining features of contemporary literature."

If this statement is true, then the thorn in the flesh (among other horrors) the Apostle Paul received wasn't as great as the sanctification he would have received had he been married. By the way, that includes multiple beatings, stoning, being shipwrecked, abandoned, and more.
Paul Washer with some absolute HEAT on the complexities of marriage. I love his honesty here:
"Marriage is the greatest instrument of sanctification.
How would you ever learn unconditional love if you were married to someone who met all the conditions?
How would you ever learn mercy, patience, long-suffering, heart-felt compassion if you were married to someone who never failed you?
Who is never difficult with you?
Who never sinned against you?
Who is never slow to acknowledge their sin or ask for forgiveness?
How would you ever learn grace, to pour out your favor on someone who did not deserve it, if you were married to someone who was always deserving of all good things?
The main purpose of marriage is that through your marriage, you both become conformed to the image of Jesus Christ."
You know, I wish I was married. I want a family of my own more than anything. But God has not seen fit to give me a husband and children. My perpetual singleness is, in fact, the greatest form of sanctification I currently experience because it drives me daily to the Cross.
