Writer. Journalist. Communications Strategist. Brand Strategist. Product Manager. I write political economy and social commentary at La Patrona on Substack.
Law and medicine are professions that work within a public trust contract. When creating a brand, you must treat communication as a science and a discipline to avoid putting your profession into disrepute and ruining your credibility, together with that of your colleagues.

I had a realization a few years ago that I don't need to figure out why this person is doing a certain behavior I dislike. All that matters is I know I don't like the behavior and I can leave
the ability to put oneself in another's shoes & experience compassion or sympathy is the ability to foresee the pain yoir actions may cause others. "what if that happened to me?" is consequence analysis that helps kids develop empathy as early as possible
The Pope is a great example of the idea that cruelty is actually dumb and that kindness and openness come from intelligence. A great juxtaposition to the (techno)fascists of our time. It takes a mind to create a better world, it takes zero to destroy it.
This obtuseness from this ridiculous administration is tiresome.
Even before we get to CCTV control rooms (never mind how funding to schools has been cut) tell us about how basic shit like regular inspections of schools for safety equipment, training and disaster preparedness and management is taking place across Kenyan schools?
Has any media house and parents’ association taken initiative to randomly visit schools (and the education ministry) to ask these questions?
What use is CCTV control rooms without this basic stuff in place for heaven’s sake? 🤦🏾♂️🤡🚮

I may be wrong but to see a video of a group of kids committing arson that leads to the death of other kids and first jumping into civil rights activist wa let’s understand why they did it ama, grievances were justified or why were the cameras there is not normal..
Punish these arsonists, by all means. But to prevent the next tragedy, which is guaranteed as long as we don't solve the root rather than the leaves, we must be willing to do the hard work. That one is amust.
16 girls are dead. 16 families will never see their daughters again. They too had dreams, fears, struggles, and futures . Whatever pain the perpetrators may have been carrying does not erase the pain they inflicted on others. The scale of the harm matters and it’s inexcusable.
so cruel yet so fascinating how you'll have to literally rewire your brain after a certain event while the other person goes on to live their life completely unaffected
This is so important. It isn’t just about having papers, it is about truly having the interests of Kenyan people at the heart of everything you do.
That is quite a different thing from “competency”.
Yesterday those fathers were being 'handled' because they were the only ones reacting. What if every parent there was screaming? Sitting down? Who would they handle? Si mtoto wako but ni mtoto wa jamii. That whole just looking and filming people at their lowest irks me
Don’t elect people who fundamentally don’t like you. It permeates everything and cascades all the way down. You can survive a lot of things, but hard to escape a government that thinks you are dispensable.
That’s why police can tell grieving and anxious parents to relax.
16 kids were alive yesterday and dead today. 16 young girls burnt to death between last night and today. 16 kids went to sleep yesterday and don't exist today.
I hope the 'ain't reading all that' brigade will challenge themselves to read the entirety of Magnifica Humanitas. If not for the reason that it's going to be one of the most important publications in this era, do it for the culture.
Don’t let the government hoodwink you. They absolutely owe you functioning systems, clean water, healthcare, security, housing, job opportunities, and basic human dignity. It is within their constitutional mandate; that is literally their core purpose and duty.
I don't understand how and why Kenyan schools are still grappling with tragic fires. After all the fire tragedies in this country, you'd think schools would have been made safer for fire outbreaks, which can very well be managed before they get out of hand.
