Peace must be rooted in the realities of communities most affected by conflict.
Strengthening the link between facilitators and grassroots actors is essential to ensuring peace processes are informed, inclusive and responsive.

Young people are often most exposed to the machinery of war.
Engaging them meaningfully as peacebuilders is critical to transforming vulnerability into leadership, resilience and lasting stability.

At the General Debate of the UN Special Committee on Peacekeeping Operations (C-34), the @AfricanUnionUN underscored the imperative of aligning mandates with realities on the ground, noting that mandate limitations, restrictive rules of engagement, and the liquidity crisis are constraining peace operations. The @AfricanUnionUN called for the ongoing review of peace operations to fully reflect these challenges.
The AU reaffirmed the relevance of its 2021 Peace Support Operations Doctrine, the framework established under #UNSCR2719, and the MoU between the AU and RECs/RMs on the utilisation of the #ASF adopted by the 39th AU Assembly, urging the #UNSC to exercise the necessary political will to activate agreed financing arrangements in support of AU-led #PSOs. The AU further emphasized the need for fit-for-purpose peace operations that advance the #WPS and #YPS agendas, while integrating #Climate, Peace & Security considerations.
As announced by the @UN on 12 January 2026, the #UNGA has endorsed the unification of the #Peacebuilding Support Office and three offices within the former @UN_OROLSI; Justice and Corrections, Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration and Security Sector Reform.
