At work, a lot of residents start chatting with me and they love how I listen so they chat it up more. Others around me laugh, act annoyed, and make snooty faces. ☹️
@mokats0911 @HeatherLuvsDuke So very true. I never realized how much I don’t know about my culture and my background but this class has taught me to expand my learning. Since the day I’ve started this class I have expanded my intercultural communications and will continue to do so. #CMCIC19
@Lindao35737974 @HeatherLuvsDuke Yes i feel this. I don’t work as much w/patients but this class&peers have made me want to interact more. Sometimes the workers r the only ppl patients have so we should learn a little more abt them to better suit them. The book even talked about the difference it makes.#CMCIC19
@Lindao35737974 @HeatherLuvsDuke Exactly. It’s interesting. People you never thought you’d converse with. So if we take the time to learn about the people we come into contact with then maybe we can make them feel more comfortable because most patients don’t. #CMCIC19
@Lindao35737974 @CultureGuy19 @HeatherLuvsDuke I really think all work places need to be reminded and taught that different people to come into your place of work to at least make them feel as comfortable as you can. I’m a receptionist and honestly feel this class has helped me communicate better. #CMCIC19
@CultureGuy19 @HeatherLuvsDuke Especially today’s world where most jobs for receptionists are that they are bilingual because of how much they have to interact with different people. I definitely thinks it boosts your professionalism if you’re able to communicate with other cultures. #CMCIC19
@Mommak39 @HeatherLuvsDuke Yes it’s so nice to communicate with others who don’t understand us. With the little Spanish I know I try to use to communicate with Spanish speakers when I’m able to understand certain parts, some people feel so at ease when you understand. #CMCIC19
@Mommak39 @HeatherLuvsDuke Spanish was so fun to learn. We really got into the different cultures and what was special to each. Our teacher even brought in a guest speaker and food to try(like this class). Also, translators make good money! Good luck in your courses!
@HeatherLuvsDuke Pt 4: I really liked this saying in the book on pg 496, “Work your way to a richer, more meaningful life by navigating between safety, stability, and change. “ The book goes on about being motivated, having knowledge, & our attitudes contribute to the way we communicate #CMCIC19
@HeatherLuvsDuke Pt 3: I will engage myself more with residents at my work, I will interact with people around me no matter where I’m at, and I’ll engage in conversations with other students. I’ll use what I’ve learned to fully connect with those I interact with. #CMCIC19
@HeatherLuvsDuke Pt 2: I will continue to participate in town activities to meet all different people. I want to travel and experience other parts of world so through this class I have learned to fully read into where you’re going, ask people that have traveled there, and so on. #CMCIC19
@HeatherLuvsDuke Pt:1 I believe working in different industries and trying to communicate, understand, and learn from the people you interact with. I can say for me I work in a nursing home and constantly meeting all kinds of people with different religions, identities, and so on. #CMCIC19
