@RepLaHood You are sadly misinformed about the reality of this change to our criminal justice system and the people who are victimized by it. You live in a place of privilege and have no concept of the repercussions of pre trial detention.
Both Breonna Taylor and Tyre Nichols should be with their families today, celebrating their 30th birthdays.
Police brutality took that away from them.
We won’t forget either of you. Rest In Power.
Republicans continue to stir up hate. Did they even read the bill? It isn't a mandate. It's a building code change to ALLOW this kind of restroom IF a business wants to have one.
Mass shootings make the news, but each day 120 Americans are shot & killed, and hundreds more are wounded.
It’s time to act. Call your U.S. rep and demand they reinstate the bipartisan assault weapons ban, text FED UP to 644-33 and we’ll connect you.
Kids are dying because of irresponsible gun ownership. These tragedies are not accidents—they’re largely the direct result of adults leaving loaded guns out where children can access them.
Requiring gun owners to securely store their guns saves lives. States with secure storage or child-access prevention laws had the lowest rates of unintentional shootings by children—at least 34% lower than states without such laws. https://t.co/pPkK5GE6zh
📢BIG NEWS: I am proud to share that #HB2789 passed the Senate! Under this bill, we can support our state’s libraries and librarians and protect them against attempts to ban, remove or restrict access to books and resources. #ILSOS@RepStava_Murray@SenatorLaura@IllLibraryAssoc
A Fox News survey found that the vast majority of Americans support strengthening gun safety laws: 87% support requiring criminal background checks on all gun buyers; 80% support Red Flag laws; 61% support banning assault rifles and semi-automatic weapons. https://t.co/sObs4RAjqS
“Americans purchased nearly 60 million guns between 2020 and 2022…
All the new weapons may be fueling a historic surge in gun deaths, which reached record highs during the same period.” https://t.co/mVAXZkrR5R
Gun laws don’t work? Why hasn’t Australia had a school shooting since 2012? How about the UK which was 1996? Last I checked they don’t have armed teachers in every school or allow guns on campus. Pretty sure they also have bad guys and doors and mentally ill people too.
There have been more mass shootings than days this year.
If you’re #FedUp with lawmakers protecting the gun lobby and gun makers instead of our lives, join us in working to #EndGunViolence: Text FED UP to 644-33.
This is the 146th mass shooting in which four or more people were shot and killed or wounded in 2023. It comes exactly two weeks after the mass shooting at Covenant School that killed six people.
We don’t have to live like this and we sure as hell don’t have to die like this.
NEW: While states like Florida are rushing to pass permitless carry, a new @Everytown report finds permitless carry states have the highest rates of road rage shootings, nearly THREE TIMES the rate of road rage shootings than states with strong gun laws.https://t.co/tmrhkWlGDp
What does it say about our country when young people are forced to endure the trauma of multiple shootings?
We are failing them by allowing this scourge to persist.
I remember the Rodney King assault. I remember how many of us thought the footage would change everything, Finally there was “proof”. Now there’s footage everyday of police brutalizing us. This footage is in HD & often comes from the police. Nothing changes. #TyreNichols
It is insane to me that members of congress on both the left and right were literally almost killed in an armed insurrection and still we do nothing substantial about guns.
The horrific mass shooting that took place in Monterey Park, CA last night is the FIFTH mass shooting since the turn of the year.
We don’t have to live like this, and we sure as hell don’t have to die like this. Text ACT to 644-33 to join the fight to #EndGunViolence.
In IL we’ve done the work to protect reproductive health care. But, where you live shouldn’t determine whether that care is available to you. This should be the 50th Anniversary of Roe v. Wade. I’ll always fight for your ability to decide what’s best for you and your body.
