Steve Kerr said he talked to Mike Brown today after the Kings let him go: “When you think about where that franchise was before Mike got there, where they’ve been the last couple years, the job he and his staff have done, it’s shocking.”
Say what you want about Mike Brown. This man truly loved Sacramento and immersed himself in the city.
From the moment he arrived in the 916, he made an effort to connect with the community. Whether it was going to high school football games or showing up at Sac State basketball games, he truly wanted to be a part of this city.
He brought a much needed "change of culture" to a team that was in the midst of the longest playoff drought in NBA history. Brown immediately made an impact and successfully got the team to "buy in."
Being a head coach of a professional sports team is no easy task. But Mike Brown never wavered in his dedication and commitment to the team. Regardless of how tough things got, he held himself accountable and protected his players.
Lastly, Mike Brown was always kind to the media. He treated us with the utmost respect at all times. He always made time for us, even if it was small talk.
He was everything that you'd want a head coach to be.
“The firing of Mike Brown today was just shocking to me… I view him as one of the standard bearers for integrity for our profession, and I'm just just absolutely shocked.”
