Look at our people cheering what appears to be yet another case of piracy?

Tomorrow, a veteran Nollywood actor will come out to beg for financial assistance because they are suffering from some type of serious illness, it will set off a series of sympathetic queries about why they’ve put up so much career effort in their active days, yet they don’t have the money to show for it. We all know the major reason?? PIRACY.

Now I find it quite interesting that the same Nigerians are lending support to SLtv owned by Metrodigital in a bid to shun or spite DStv and GOtv. A careful run-through of the channel list on SLtv will show you the obvious.

Firstly, all SuperSport channels belong to DStv and they own exclusive rights to English Premier League rights in Sub-Saharan Africa. So, how come SLtv has them too? Your guess is as good as mine.

How about the entertainment channels? Why are they so much like Africa Magic? If you are guessing that they pirated those too, you will have valid reasons.

StarTimes, a competitor alike, has been in the market for over a decade and they have gone about their business offering value to their niche customers without resorting to piracy, so why should we encourage what appears to be Piracy in this case in hand because we want to enjoy content we are unwilling to pay for?

MultiChoice invested heavily in those content, if you haven't heard of any, at least you would know about the hundreds of millions of dollars for EPL rights, it makes no sense that SLtv is reportedly depriving them and the creators of the returns of their investments.

We can't on one hand say we that we are in total support of the President's cause of attracting FDIs to the country, then flip the other hand to support this. Potential investors can see what we are doing. Investors are just that--investors. They are not charity organisations, they want their ROIs for their investments.

If you can’t afford to subscribe to DStv or GOtv, don’t resort to encouraging piracy and then come out to pander to virtue when the negative impacts of piracy are being discussed.

There's a word for that. It starts with H and ends with Y.
