Roads, electricity and water are the top three priorities for boosting the economy of Tharaka.
Last year, a kitty of 3.3 billion shillings was deployed to tarmac 30 kilometres of roads within Tharaka Constituency, out of which 24 kilometres is black top.
Another 6 billion shillings has been released this year for tarmacking 90 additional kilometres of roads within the Constituency.
When President Ruto assumed office electricity connectivity in Tharaka was at 11%, one of the lowest in the country. It has now climbed to 40% of the households.
The Government has released 685 million shillings to bring electricity connectivity to 75% within a year and further funds will be provided to bring it to 100% in two years.
There are a number of small projects for drinking and irrigation water, but the permanent solution lies in the dam projects being incubated under the newly established National Infrastructure Fund (NIF).
A major intervention to resolve the water problem will be ready in the coming months.
