Key Step to Begin Today:
Urban development policies must formally recognize third places as public infrastructure.
This means budgeting for open libraries, study rooms, shaded seating areas, community halls and late hour safe commons as part of municipal planning.

Outcome:
Improved awareness and smoother implementation of public schemes.
Effective policy is not only about formulation, it is about understandable delivery.
Good governance must be clear governance.

For Day Six of Start Thinking in Policy, the task is to imagine a policy role for ourselves.
I chose to focus on the communication gap in public policy.

The policy deepens inequality by:

->Weakening public transport’s role as an equalizer

Looks efficient. Produces mobility exclusion in practice.

Today’s task is to design a fictional policy that looks “reasonable” but makes things worse.

Higher fares during peak hours effectively penalize those with the least scheduling flexibility and push them toward unsafe or informal transit.

Policy improvement suggestion:
Mandate digital geotagging and periodic water table reporting for commercial borewell operators, integrated with municipal water data dashboards.
This would support sustainable withdrawal, transparency and long term groundwater resilience.

For Day Four of Start Thinking in Policy, we were asked to trace the journey of an everyday item.
I chose drinking water, something all urban households, PGs, hostels, and cafés rely on daily.

Policy gap: Groundwater extraction monitoring is weak.
Without reliable geotagging, metering, or periodic audits, over extraction continues, contributing to aquifer depletion and worsening urban water insecurity.
