Elon Musk just did a full "Hail Hitler" Nazi salute at Trump's inauguration. This is absolutely incredible. That thumb and hand are perfectly rigid and his arm is at the exact same angle. Full video of this is in the comments below.
Could just be a helpful case study rather than a deterrent, e.g. "Or will it draw very different lessons, learning from Russia’s tactical mistakes while hoping to benefit from the eventual exhaustion of Western military resources?" https://t.co/1epwQkBYRE
The lack of adequate federal support for Maui fire recovery prompted a lot of "Maybe we shouldn't be spending billions in Ukraine if we can't help our own citizens," which made me curious about the arguments for/against. This @TheEconomist argument's first half is compelling:
"The [Ukraine] war presents America with a chance to defang Vladimir Putin and deter China from invading Taiwan without putting its own troops at risk." First half, Agree, but second half, Less Certain. Would this deter or actually unfortunately encourage China?
The Money Stuff by @matt_levine is so well-written. I prefer the slightly different (more casual? flippant?) tone of the email than online article, spot the difference:
If you get hacked and your stock goes down, that's securities fraud. https://t.co/MTB70bXmHO via @opinion
@rishmishra Possibly being forbidden from returning. Fascinating to read about elderly who returned to the Chernobyl Exclusive Zone because they were happier returning home than remaining displaced. The trauma of forces relocation takes a physical toll on health.
But then, wait, did I just hit the point of no return (called the Loss Point by one game theory website but I don't know if it's a standardized term)? Or did I lock myself into this inevitable outcome a few moves earlier? The point you realize it's too late might itself be late.
Bedtime reading is book 3 of @lesswrong's Carving of Reality series and that first point nailed something I've been thinking a lot about while learning Go/Baduk this past month. That moment you realize you've lost, even though there are still 10 turns left.
Ana said “Do it so the people who are looking for you can find you.” She may be a PSYOP for X but it's a great argument all the same for being more vocal on here. @anammostarac
One of the best party hosts I know @dydt roams the room pairing guests together and giving an introduction of each person's unique hobbies or weird facts. Instant conversation starters and accelerated deeper connections.
But I do miss those dinner parties in the Mission where I'd get demos of startup MVPs and half-soldered Burning Man installations. And the (VC-influenced?) culture of proactively connecting people with similar niche interests or complementary skills. (Is that back post-Covid?)
@anammostarac I still stand by my original character reference even though you're now drunk off the high of my sincerity and have going down the dark road of misattribution.
