Succulents need to be in an area with a lot of sunlight in order to grow. They also are a type of plant that doesn’t need to be watered that often. A good pH level for a succulent is around 5.5! @franklinlorax#apesland
This is my aloe vera plant. We make sure not to water the plant too much and that the soil we use is not regular gardening soil, but a soil that has perlite in it! #apesland@franklinlorax
In class we learned about our ecological footprints. If everyone lived like me we would need 4.4 earths. One way I can reduce my ecological footprint if by eating less animal based products #apespop@franklinlorax
Dina and I carpool daily to minimize our impact on the earth and car pollution. Also, we use less fuel this way which helps the environment stay clean and is more energy efficient. #apespop@franklinlorax
Eating more fruits and vegetables and less meat can help reduce your ecological footprint. However, it is also important to eat foot that is locally grown, which I need to work on since oranges are not grown in Wisconsin. #apespop@franklinlorax
Bettas have an adaptation that allows them to survive in tropical biomes (rainforests and seasonal forests). They develop a labyrinth organ that allows them to breathe air above the surface so they can live in these warm, low oxygen habitats! @franklinlorax#apesecology
Wisconsin is apart of the temperate forest biome. We have forests with deciduous trees, some animals that we have are rabbits, deer, squirrels, hummingbirds etc. We also have 4 different seasons throughout the year. #apesecology@franklinlorax
The pioneer species of lichen can be seen on trees in my yard, showing remnants of the beginning of the primary succession process. #apesecology@franklinlorax
The Whitnall park pond is home to Panfish and other organisms but rainwater runoff from impermeable surfaces like concrete parking lots can be harmful to them and their habitat . Many pollutants are washed off these surfaces and into the pond. #apeswater@franklinlorax
After going to the Oak creek water treatment plant, I learned all about the process of cleaning water from Lake Michigan. This gives me clean water to use in my house! @franklinlorax#apeswater
The small tile on the stormwater drains in my neighborhood serve as a reminder for the impacts of consumer pollutants on the waterway. The drains in my area lead to the Root River, which eventually leads to Lake Michigan. #apeswater@franklinlorax
