i'm a fate tourist so cmiiw but iirc gil only feels that way towards enkidu and will never consider anyone else his equal, esp not enough to ask them to watch his back... he's also too arrogant for that, unlike mydei. gil sees phainon as a subject, but mydei sees him as an equal
