Dragged myself out the door today after two weeks off winter biking due to being sick, and was pleasantly surprised at the nearly impeccable plow job on the Assiniboine/Granite/Balmoral bike lanes. Side streets were hit and miss. Now let’s see the same on the sidewalks!
@ohryan This took place right in front of me earlier this evening. It all happened very fast so I’m not sure of the details, but lots of police cars suddenly surrounded a vehicle, there were shots fired and at least one person was taken away by ambulance. More than just a crash.
Today I learned that you can go into your Twitter settings and set it to remind you to add alt text to images. Why isn’t this on by default??
Settings and privacy > Accessibility, display, and languages > Accessibility (it’s in there under Media)
Well, this is impressive. Real time trail snow plowing status map, updated every 3 minutes. Doesn’t cover all trails and sidewalks, but it’s a great start. Winnipeg can learn from our snowy southern neighbours!
With snow all but certain tomorrow, we're about to put a new online tool to work: Check out the map tracking real-time plowing activity on park trails and sidewalks at https://t.co/lctsYjRfpl.
Bike lanes were chunky today. Lots of fishtailing fun to be had. I think the warmer temps are softening up what used to be hard pack. If only we could stay at a nice -10 to -15 all winter!
Happy to report that the Assiniboine/Granite/Westminster bike lanes are plowed and a welcome reprieve from the brown sugary side streets! It’s an idyllic winter wonderland out there.
A related friendly reminder: it’s that time of year where some of the bike lanes are plowed before the sidewalks are. Have grace for pedestrians walking in the bike lane! We’re all just trying to make it through the first big snow ❄️
Americans love being like “you had a tough 10 hour shift?? I worked three 16 hours shifts in a row and I’m not complaining!”
All while having no idea that they are, in fact, the victim.
@urbaniconoclasm That comment was in response to everyone getting very angry at me for not 'just biking around it'. Agreed that this could potentially be a very dangerous situation!!
@urbaniconoclasm Heyo just want say that I don't own a car, and scary shit like this is part of my every day on a bike - it sucks. I got a morbid laugh out of it because we ask people every day not to park in the bike lane, and this is how they respond.
Ok y’all I just thought this was funny, gave me a good chuckle on the way to work. Both cars and bikes are inconvenienced here, we all have to go around into oncoming traffic. Moving vans exist and get in the way, it’s a thing. Twitter is so angry!
Wow, @cityofwinnipeg I’m not sure who closed the Garry bike lane today but this might be the worst/most dangerous attempt at closing and rerouting I have seen. This is so bad I’m not sure where to begin. 1/
@lyndseyerinx It’s an old school stationary bike! Had one of these donated to a community bike shop I used to work at, took me a while to wrap my head around it haha
