एक बेबस माँ की आँखों के सामने उसका जिगर का टुकड़ा अचानक फिसलकर खूंखार लकड़बग्घों के बाड़े में जा गिरा हमला और चीख पुकार मासूम को देखते ही भूखे लकड़बग्घों के पूरे झुंड ने उसे घेर लिया और उस पर जानलेवा हमला कर दिया। लोग डर के मारे रोने लगे और हर तरफ सिर्फ चीखें गूँज रही थीं क्योंकि बच्चे को बचाने का कोई रास्ता नहीं दिख रहा था लकड़बग्घे बच्चे को पूरी तरह अपना शिकार बनाने ही वाले थे कि तभी पूरे चिड़ियाघर में एक ऐसी भयानक दहाड़ गूंजी जिससे धरती हिल गई और सारे लकड़बग्घे डर के मारे थर-थर कांपने लगेचमत्कारी रक्षक पास के बाड़े से एक विशाल बब्बर शेर दीवार लांघकर सीधे लकड़बग्घों के ऊपर बिजली की तरह झपटा। शेर ने खूंखार शिकारियों को खदेड़ दिया और जब तक चिड़ियाघर की रेस्क्यू टीम अंदर आई तब तक वह उस रोते हुए बच्चे के आगे ढाल बनकर खड़ा रहा काल बनकर आए लकड़बग्घों के बीच से खुद जंगल का राजा उस बच्चे के लिए रक्षक बन गया और मासूम को एक खरोंच तक नहीं आने दी

Gave a dad on the subway a look once, his toddler was eating a donut at 7am, seemed like a lazy breakfast choice, none of my business but I judged anyway.

Heard him on the phone a few stops later, talking to what sounded like a nurse, confirming an appointment time, mentioning the donut was the only thing that stayed down before infusions.

Kid had leukemia. The donut wasn't a lazy choice. It was the one food that gave him enough calories to survive a treatment that made everything else come back up.

Sat there the rest of my ride replaying the look I'd given him.

Try to remember that now anytime something looks careless from the outside. Usually just means I don't have the whole picture yet.

I will never understand hearing your baby cry and consciously deciding not to comfort them because you’re trying to teach them to stop asking for you. I just don’t understand the obsession with getting babies to sleep independently as quickly as possible. I could never do it. If my baby wakes up crying, I’m going to scoop them up. They are not manipulating me, they are a baby, and babyhood is honestly so short anyway. I feel like it’s really that simple, and we put way too many weird, unrealistic expectations on babies.

Never touch tap water and never will.

Plastic bottled water is basically for people who don't respect their own body.

Tomato pasta and a pork loin each day. For clarity I’ll add a spoon of Philadelphia to make the tomato pasta creamy and a bit more exciting.

It’s not extravagant but it’s cheap and affordable and anyone can make this.

You can eat affordably if you’re not fussy and lazy.

I’d spend an extra £13-£15 eating meal deals all week.
