#inlaws#sample"The main character isn't pure. She's reminds me a bit of Amy from Gone Girl but she's not that evil. She's very good at manipulation" @goodreads https://t.co/WVxNs3Od55
Thank you for your kind words, Marina. As a writer, I am always pleased when readers can "see" a film. Thank you, too, for my first review in another language.

#inside#inlaws "He perked up, however, as he looked down lovingly at the coffee he had just made. 'Nothing like a good cup of coffee,' Malcolm announced ... and, to use a well worn joke, it was nothing like a good cup of coffee, being both tasteless and lukewarm." - Eve
"When a borderline psychopath is confronted by the mother-in-law from hell, there's bound to be interesting times in store for the reader."

#inlaws#reviews#others I found it fascinating when I learnt the author researched the whole thing without leaving London. This shouldn’t, I suppose, be a surprise. I don’t imagine JR Rowling ever visited a school for wizards, Tolkien never ventured very far from Oxford (etc.)
"This book is a combination of a mystery/thriller with a touch of humor. A surprising and amusing ending."

#inlaws#reviews#others Am I missing something here? Where some authors make the everyday experience of characters feel relevant for all humankind, others don’t. The characters in this book, rather than leaping off the page, lay there, inert.
#inlaws#reviews#others An extraordinary insight into what people had to do to survive in pre-revolutionary China. The immense hardship & lack of any safety net is chilling, especially when one reflects that things are not so different for millions today, all over the world.
"In a tone reminiscent of "Carrie Bradshaw", I saw a narrator that I could relate to"

#inlaws#reviews#others You may never have heard of Patrick Hamilton, but you will have heard the term ‘gaslighting’. This book is an evocation of lives lived in London in the 1930s. It exquisitely details the minutiae of every day experience.
"Well written and with a satisfying ending [...] How Eve outsmarts her is not only ingenious at times but hilarious and makes you think Eve may be keeping some secrets herself [...] a good read."
