Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting HOLY SHIT what a ride!
A final piece of advice from Holly Butcher - written the day before she passed away from cancer at just 27:
“It’s a strange thing knowing you’re going to die young.
At 26, I thought I had time…
To fall in love.
Start a family.
Grow old.
But cancer doesn’t care about plans.
Now, I understand how fragile life really is. Every single day is a gift, not a guarantee.
I’m not writing this to scare you. I’m writing to remind you: really live.
Stop stressing over little things. Be kind to your body- move it, nourish it, stop criticizing it. One day you’ll wish you had appreciated it.
Go outside.
Look at the sky.
Feel the sun.
Just be.
Spend less time chasing “stuff” - more time making memories. Don’t skip moments with people you love.
Laugh more.
Write a note.
Tell someone you love them.
Complain less.
Give more.
Helping others brings more joy than anything you can buy.
Be present.
Put your phone down.
Show up - really show up.
You don’t need to have it all figured out. You don’t need a perfect body, or a perfect life.
Just follow what makes your heart light up. Say no to what drains you. Make changes when you need to.
And please - donate blood. I wouldn’t have had that extra year without it. And that year gave me memories I’ll hold close… forever.
Thank you for reading this.
Live your life well.
And maybe… we’ll meet again someday.”

Cathedral Prep wins the D-10 2A girls soccer title with a 3-1 win over Fort LeBoeuf! Congrats to the Ramblers. The great news is both Prep and Fort LeBoeuf head to the PIAA playoffs!
This clip is going viral right now
A kid at his t-ball game decides to somersault to home plate rather than run
This is exactly what I mean when I say "let your kids jump in mud puddles"
This is what it looks like when we allow our boys to use their innate energy, creativity, and curiosity for life in healthy ways
It reminds me of when I was a boy, I had a kid on one of my t-ball teams who spent the whole game walking the chalk lines, tracing them with his steps, oblivious to whatever was actually happening in the game
Nobody told him to stop, nobody scolded him. Everybody just accepted he was probably never going to ba an MLB draft pick. He grew up to be a talented engineer (shocker lol)
My advice to parents is to encourage this type of creativity. Build your kids up. Help them understand that yes rules do matter, but you can always find your own creative path home
Last year, Abdelrahman El-Araby missed the NCAA Championships after recovering from a suicide attempt.
This week, he won first place at the ACC Swimming Championship.
This is his message.
Give yourself sixty seconds.
Please keep the Tufts family in your prayers as Jack has passed away. He was a great guy and a big part of the Erie sports community. I still remember showing up at JC Martin as a kid with golf clubs and no clue what to do and Jack always helped me out lol. #RIPJack
2023 NOTE TO SELF:
One year from now it won’t really matter what shoes you wore last night, how your hair looked, or what brand of clothes you rocked. What will matter is how you lived each day, how you loved each day, and what you learned along the way.
Just because you have struggled this year does NOT mean you are failing. Every success requires some kind of worthy struggle to get there. So use 2022’s disappointments & frustrations to motivate you rather than annoy you today. You are in control of the way you respond to life.
Big Region girls soccer win for the Ramblers as they close out their regular season, 3-2 over General McLane. Prep goals came from Olivia Dixon, Moira Thunell and Alexa Tojaga.
