Porté par les entrelacs hypnotiques de John McGeoch, ce titre-phare demeure un modèle de tension et de grâce sombre, à la croisée du gothique et de la transe
Siouxsie & The Banshees - "Spellbound" (1981)
"What Difference Does It Make?" is from the debut album by The Smiths (1984). Written by Morrissey (lyrics) and Johnny Marr (music), the track was released as a single and reached #12 in the UK.
Both the cover of the single and the original video of this song generated controversy by using an image from the film The Collector (1965), with Terence Stamp. The aesthetic generated rejection on some radio stations, which even boycotted the song.
What Difference Does It Make? became one of the band's first big hits and helped define the indie sound of the 80s, showing from the beginning the unique chemistry between Morrissey and Johnny Marr.
