Male authors -- especially *married men* -- you should absolutely throw your hat in the romance ring. There's a shortage of GOOD romance by male voices out there. Not explicit/cringe stuff, but the sweet, funny, charming, and occasionally adventurous things that made your wife fall in love with you.
Love makes life worth living, so don't think you can't write romance just becuase you haven't yet (or your name isn't Nicholas Sparks).

In addition to coming of age, I think an underrated trope is the unreliable narrator — even if it's the main character. You can learn so much about a story and its characters when you realize who the narrator is, and what their goal / role is. In Beauty Is the Beast, the narrator is... shall we say... invested in the outcome.

I think "coming of age" gets dismissed too much. It belongs to the camp of "finding oneself," which I think fascinating. A person/character explores what they, as an entity, literally ARE. What they stand for. What they're made of.

Totally agree "coming of age" is an underrated trope. And when it is used, it's often "now they're old enough to do X thing" with either relationship or power acquisition.
Now, tbf AND tbh, both of those do happen for my FMC in my fantasy series Threads of Sylvara: Root & Stone, but a bigger impact is her ability to choose her path and profession.

My MCs have strong moral compasses. In my standalone WIP, Beauty Is the Beast, Ettie is always trying to do the right thing.
In my WIP fantasy series Threads of Sylvara: Root & Stone, both MCs try so hard to do the right thing they end up causing themselves & each other problems.

In NOMARA, Kate's moral compass is self-preservation. She only later contemplates the importance of others.

In the Triempery series, Dorilian at the start could use a moral compass... and finds a man who can serve as one.

Fairly universal things like don't kill, steal, cheat, lie, etc.
But what gets them into trouble are of the "wrong things for right reasons" variety... He follows orders from his superiors, which should be a "moral" thing, but they're bad commands.
And she takes dangerous risks she shouldn't in order to prove herself and/or help more people.

I'm on android... just looked and no luck on Google's apps. I could write on docs when I can't be at my desktop or laptop then copy over my progress... TBF, I'm usually only able to get about 750 words written on my phone unless I'm using speech to text. And then it's only like 200 😆

@DoyleKen @MichaelFKane If it had a way to connect with my phone... maybe. These days I don't get a lot of time at my desk or even my laptop. (Really like my new job but it does keep me VERY occupied.)

It's killing me to see those cuties... but I love it. We're at the "No additional pets or chickens" stage (oldest cat and dog are both 14, the other dog is 11 and the other 2 cats are 9... even the chickens are nearing end of their life expectancy).
Maybe after we retire and spend a couple years traveling we'll start adopting pets again.

@AuthorGFAllen I do... and I really enjoy switching between them as mood and opportunity arise.
Currently in the midst of a few ebooks, 2 audio books, and a couple of printed books (but those stay home).
