@GuardianEdu https://t.co/IufSflFJRO We will make progress when we stop framing this recurrent discussion as either/or. Of course causes are structural, but i) structures are made by people, and ii) we all need to cultivate understanding, and skills to tackle the causes, and to keep safe.
@GregorWell @lfoulkesy @AdrianBethune @WillemKuyken@neilhumphreyUoM@Tamsin_J_Ford@Place2Be@OHID You might like to see our considered response of the Mindfulness Initiative, putting the crude and simplistic headlines Myriad produced
in a broader evidence based context, which supports universal approaches - when implemented well.

@lfoulkesy This, and similar eye catching responses, is a massive simplistic overreaction in the light of just one study. We need to set it against a backdrop of 30 years of sound international work exploring the best way to implement universal and whole school approaches to wellbeing.
@MindfulNationUK@WillemKuyken We need both inner and outer connection of course. I would not want this to be either/or. 'Demand' less yes, but 'support' more, including through helping teachers and students develop their capacities both for resilience and to effect social change.

The MYRIAD study of mindfulness in schools is a useful contribution - but the simplistic news headlines are misleading. See the Mindfulness Initiative's initial reflections here https://t.co/Txo9wafDBD
@WillemKuyken Agree structural change vital, but lets not make it either or. Inner and outer connection and all that. We don't want to undermine all the good work on mental health in schools for teachers and students.

So I guess as yet unborn children are expected to sort out the mess of #climatechange and #biodiversity destruction in their lifetimes then? If there is any planet left to sortโฆ
