Gary Man Sentenced to 46 Months in Prison for Possessing Unregistered Machinegun
"Bringing a fully automatic machine gun with a loaded, extended large-capacity magazine into a high school during school hours is a serious federal crime, and today's sentence shows that this dangerous conduct will not be tolerated in Northern Indiana. Our schools must be a safe place for students to learn, educators to teach, and staff to work without the fear of gun violence. School safety remains a critical priority for this office and our law enforcement partners. We are fully committed to prosecuting anyone who compromises the security of our classrooms. We will continue to collaborate with our local, state, and federal partners to protect our children and ensure our schools remain secure learning environments," said United States Attorney Adam Mildred.
“Bringing a loaded, illegally modified firearm capable of automatic fire into a school demonstrates a reckless disregard for human life and public safety,” said HSI Chicago Special Agent in Charge Matthew Scarpino. “HSI and our law enforcement partners will continue to pursue those who use illegal firearms to threaten our communities and ensure they are held accountable under federal law.

Gary Man Found Guilty After 9-Day Jury Trial for Sex Trafficking, Forced Labor, and Firearm Offenses
“We are thankful for the jury’s careful deliberation and attention to detail on each specific count after hearing very difficult evidence and arguments of counsel over a period of nine days. Verdicts like this in extremely serious cases only happen after the superior investigative work of our law‑enforcement partners, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, U.S. Marshals, the Harvey (Illinois) Police Department, Gary Police Department, and the Lake County Prosecutor Office led by Bernard A. Carter. These partners worked tirelessly to uncover the truth. That partnership allowed the legal team of Trial Attorney Matthew Thiman of the DOJ Criminal Division’s Human Rights and Special Prosecutions Section and Assistant U.S. Attorneys Caitlin M. Padula and Nadia Wardrip for the Northern District of Indiana to prosecute the case. Most of all, we are thankful for the cooperation of the brave witnesses and survivors of crime who testified in this most difficult case,” said U.S. Attorney Adam L. Mildred.

The Cartel of the Suns is often described as a traditional drug cartel. Our investigations show something more complex: a corruption network connecting state officials, armed groups, drug trafficking, and illegal gold mining. Watch our video to learn how it works: https://t.co/L1Rj1j6hfj
The death of Tasia Fortune, a Black Mississippi woman found hanging from a tree on Aug. 3, has stirred distressing memories of the grim history of lynchings across the U.S. South.
In a statement released by the White House after our story was published, President Donald Trump said he had “no idea” who Umar Kremlev is and had “never heard” of him.
