@janeperrone when I was a student half a century ago, I used to take my veggie peelings home on the train every week to my parent's compost heap. I could not bear the thought of burying their microbes in a plastic grave.

@JamesPurefoy all fungi are edible...some only once. Try Green Park for parasol mushrooms. Also look for shaggy ink caps. Very good eating on the same day of picking, and very safe because no other fungi look remotely like it...and certainly not the bad ones. I eat both....still alive.
