@ZichenWanghere Chip curbs can stay contested while AI-risk talks move forward. If Beijingโs silence on exports here holds up in the actual talks, thatโs a pretty big opening. Would love to see a real incident protocol come out of it, ngl.
@timschuster@hilbertspaess the rhetoric says โpull away,โ while Stanford had the top US model only ~2.7% ahead in March. thats a pretty compressed gap. US still has huge capital + infra advantages, but capability competition itself is clearly getting tighter
@JordanSchachtel if billionaire influence is the problem, then yeaโฆ apply that lens to EVERY billionaire shaping AI policy?!!! JH gets singled out hard while frontier labs are openly lobbying for stronger federal rules too. everybodyโs incentives deserve the same microscope
@robertwiblin the funny part is ppl keep describing JH like he said โtrust us broโ for 2 hours ๐ he talked abt external watchdogs, containment, liability + shutting labs if safe testing fails. thats a way more serious position than the comments make it sound
@axios the โavoid bifurcationโ bit caught my eye ๐ once ecosystems split too far, visibility drops, standards drift and every incident gets harder to interpret. fragmentation has costs ppl barely talk about rn
@W_T_Han A random lab can launch the agent; an entire country may catch the blame. Thats the geopolitical bug here. Put high-risk workloads on controlled NVIDIA infrastructure, record who launched what and keep an emergency channel open. Less mystery, fewer panic spirals.
@JChengWSJ@lauriechenwords American compute leadership gives Washington real bargaining power in these talks. Safety standards, audits + reporting reach further while global workloads still touch US chips and clouds. Keeping that ecosystem connected is lowkey part of keeping it governable.
@pietercleppe A French-founded AI platform with a huge global developer community, now backed by NVIDIA-scale compute and capital? Ngl that bigass W combo could give European startups a much stronger launchpad without forcing everyone behind a closed API iswis
"NVIDIA is buying Hugging Face for $12.93 billion" - French company Hugging Face enables developers to share, discover and test open source AI models. This is a positive development, as it makes European startups and SMEs less dependent on Chinese open source models https://t.co/X6zOxVM0uP
@theinformation Welp if the rule makes US clouds slower and pricier while Chinese providers stay available, customers will route around it. Congrats, Washington just converted a compliance burden into free customer acquisition for Huawei. Strategic genius, apparently.
@EuromaidanPress The Nvidia chip didnโt โCHOOSEโ anything. Russian developers trained the model, wrote the targeting code and deployed it on the drone. The hardware executed their instructions. Blaming the processor instead of the people who weaponized it is wild framing.
