I worked for a man in the 90s who owned a travel agency. When he asked where I’d like to go on my vacation, I told him “India.” He said I could go, but that he’d fire me when I got back. When I asked him why, he said India was the filthiest shit hole he’d ever been to, disease riddled, packed full of dishonest scammers and beggars, etc. etc. His vow to fire me was meant to deter me from wasting my two weeks’ vacation in Hell.
