It's really cool how languages evolve. I'd think the external changes might evolve a bit more quickly than the internal changes. I think dropping sounds from your accent or picking up words to fit in is something i think we can all say we have done.

According to the quiz I'm 29% Dixie, a dandy Yankee doodle. I have lived all over the US and am influenced by a lot of different regions of the country. I was born in the South, spent summers in New York and Iowa, lived in the Midwest, South West, & West Coast. #eng211fall21
@Aysiah189342931 I pondered (in good humor) that maybe adults have more trouble learning new language because we're all a giant pile of anxiety. I know in my case this is probably true! Spanish has always been my formidable foe- perhaps I should consider it an old friend?
What I took from our readings/videos this week is you cannot force a 2nd language. Ones native tongue will help build foundations for language rules. We learn when we understand. Without nurturing those foundations there is nothing to connect the dots to.

Watching Dr Krashen this week, his last topic really stuck with me: writing helps problem solving. It gives better, clearer ideas. He also said good readers write good papers. Does this mean good readers are by default good problem solvers?

Reading an article for my paper, I loved this quote:
"As knowledge of gender & its linguistic framing expands, the English language must reflect societal awareness of linguistic representation."

I know several people who have been raising intelligent, articulate babies/toddlers during this pandemic. Masks and all.

Effects on language acquisition during lockdown for early language learners:
"...who you are (your education, your child's age or sex) does not predict vocabulary development as much as what you did with your child during lockdown."

Myth 11 states that language and accent preferences are socially and politically driven and creates bias in understanding. If one believes a foreign accent is inferior, they are going to spend less time trying to understand what is being communicated.

@rjoycabc I was trying to tell what she knew best. It seemed like English was her native language, Russian was quite comfortable, and I think she was still learning Spanish (though still amazingly skilled at speaking the language!) Kids are like sponges. I wish I was that way too!
Watching the videos for this week, it's amazing to me that doctors would ever recommend that speaking multiple languages would be a disadvantage. Dr. Brenda Gorman reiterates that language proficiency in not an indication of intelligence.
