4 August 1943 | A French Jewish girl, Marguerite Sznajderman, was born in Paris.

She arrived at #Auschwitz on 12 February 1944 in a transport of 1,500 Jews deported from Drancy. She was among 1,229 of them murdered in gas chambers after the selection. She was 6 months old.

@AuschwitzMuseum The Holocaust is taught in terms of numbers, it's very impersonal. @AuschwitzMuseum makes those numbers mean something. Those tiny babies who never had a chance at life, those who'd lived a full life but still didn't deserve to die. Seeing their faces is the best teacher of all.

I didn't want to end up following the assistant path so I left and took up a position outside academia where I really found my voice and confidence to succeed 2/2

@panickedpostdoc @AcademicChatter When I was a summer student there were a couple of mid career women who were basically used as lab assistants for students because the professors didn't value their work. They were solid workers but not 'flashy' and didn't fight back hard enough when given menial tasks. 1/
