@stephenwgreen All design interviewing is a take home exercise. Building portfolio, resume, and presentations for each company takes ages. I'd rather do homework than build another slide deck though lol. I think the big no-no is if the exercise benefits the company, then it's just unpaid labor.
@mialoira I'm so against this, but in my circles if you want the right to protect your health you have to apply for exceptions. Everything is deemed "low caution" even though we're in a surge. Community spread isn't considered dangerous bc of low hospitalization/death rates.
@keaton_taylor In reality, your manager doesn't usually have the power to make your dreams come true. Careers are weird and meanderingβa lot happens by accident. You have to sell yourself over and over and hope to land in an opportunity that aligns with what you want. But it can happen!
@keaton_taylor I had a realization recently that, similar to romcoms skewing perceptions of romantic relationships, media has also sold us the lie of the "perfect mentor" like someday you'll have a boss that NOTICES you, takes you under their wing, helps you grow, then your career will take off
@jeremydizon @REIM3RS most of my career was at startups so I knew exactly who my eng partners were. eng/product/design would review specs/designs together. I always felt guilty when things changed during implementation but sometimes you learn and adjust. We'd just sync up and figure it out together.
