My father was forced into the U.S. war on Vietnam after Tet. It turned him against war for the rest of his life.
He died young in part because of how war damaged him. My mother’s family was affected by Agent Orange.
In Washington, war is bipartisan.
Trump is bombing Yemen and Somalia.
He’s supplying bombs to Israel which are exploding on Gaza and Lebanon.
I opposed Biden’s wars. Trump 1.0’s wars. Obama’s wars.
And I’ll oppose Trump 2.0’s wars and all who come after him until this empire is transformed from a corporate war-addicted oligarchy into a normal society that works toward the needs of all its people.
“Stand up and speak, tell the world, you are the one who tells the truth, for the image alone is not enough.”
The father of journalist Mohammed Mansour bids farewell to his son with heartbreaking words, urging the voice that once conveyed the truth to a deaf world.
Hamdan Ballal — the co-director of No Other Land — has been kidnapped and beaten (and allegedly lynched). The fact that there is barely any coverage of this is horrifying.
The world let us Israel kill them all. Hossam carried the torch until the last breath, but the world is so dark and bleak.
Hossam’s soul will shine forever. May Allah bless his beautiful soul
We’re heading towards a point where it would be easier to count the journalists who are still alive in Gaza, rather than counting those who were murdered by israel through out this endless aggression.
This is Hossam’s team, and we are sharing his final message :
“If you’re reading this, it means I have been killed—most likely targeted—by the Israeli occupation forces. When this all began, I was only 21 years old—a college student with dreams like anyone else. For past 18 months, I have dedicated every moment of my life to my people. I documented the horrors in northern Gaza minute by minute, determined to show the world the truth they tried to bury. I slept on pavements, in schools, in tents—anywhere I could. Each day was a battle for survival. I endured hunger for months, yet I never left my people’s side.
By God, I fulfilled my duty as a journalist. I risked everything to report the truth, and now, I am finally at rest—something I haven’t known in the past 18 months . I did all this because I believe in the Palestinian cause. I believe this land is ours, and it has been the highest honor of my life to die defending it and serving its people.
I ask you now: do not stop speaking about Gaza. Do not let the world look away. Keep fighting, keep telling our stories—until Palestine is free.”
— For the last time, Hossam Shabat, from northern Gaza.
I'm standing with Karam, Hamdan's 7 year old son, near the blood of Hamdan's in his house, after settlers lynched him. Hamdan, co-director of our film No Other Land, is still missing after soldiers abducted him, injured and bleeding. This is how they erase Masafer Yatta.
