We also used these measurements to estimate a total upstream oil and gas methane inventory for Alberta for 2018. Our estimate was 1.5 times higher than what is reported in the National Inventory Report for the same year.

Emission intensities varied widely, where older, low-producing developments such as Medicine Hat, Alberta showed high emission intensities, and newer developments in Montney, British Columbia showed emission intensities that are amongst the lowest in North America.
