BREAKING: Last Hospital in North Gaza Shuts Down

Al-Awda Hospital, the final functioning medical center in North Gaza, has now been fully evacuated to its branch in central Gaza. This marks the complete shuttering of all three hospitals in the governorate—officially leaving the entire region without medical services.

WHO reported last week that Al-Awda was only minimally functional, operating as a trauma stabilization point. The hospital came under repeated attacks:

➤ May 21: The third floor was struck, injuring one staff member and damaging the water tank and pipeline.

➤ May 22: Another strike hit the third and fourth floors, injuring two more health workers. A fire destroyed patient triage tents (including one provided by WHO), the medical supply warehouse, and vehicles in the basement. A WHO mission attempting to reach the site was blocked.

Other North Gaza hospitals had already ceased operations:

➤ Indonesian Hospital: Out of service since May 18 due to continued Israeli military presence, making access impossible.

➤ Kamal Adwan Hospital: Shut down on May 20 following intense hostilities. It had the only facility in North Gaza to treat severe acute malnutrition. Patients were forced to evacuate or were discharged prematurely.
