I’m all for giving credit where credit is justly due (Anne looks stunning!), but she’s also described abortion as an “act of mercy.”
Can we conservatives stop rushing to platform celebrities the moment they do or say something that we think somewhat aligns with our values? Declaring faux cultural victories for content doesn’t do much to actually move the needle. And often it’s accompanied by slogans like “get married, have babies” without offering a road map for how to get there.
Not to nitpick (perhaps this content has its place)—but I notice conservative influencers doing this a lot. And often, it manifests with mid-tier celebs like we saw at the cringy TPUSA halftime show.
All that said, congrats to Anne!
To me, this is a perfect example of those who make idols out of liturgical preferences. This thinking is deeply harmful not only to the Church but to ourselves.

“But the German bishops!” “LGBTQ+ in the Vatican!” These concerns are valid, but this whataboutism is a way to detract from the grave act of disobedience that took place this week.
Feeling like an absolute villain every time I walk past kids with a lemonade stand and have to tell them I don’t have any cash on me. I need to get cash specifically so that I can buy lemonade from lemonade stands.
@joynessthebrave I just read your interview with Ken Burns in this issue on the train ride into work and it gave me a lot to think about as we approach America’s 250th birthday!
