I know a family closely that lives in a border town of Jammu. For them, Pakistani shelling has been a way of life for many years.

When shelling begins - and it always begins without warning - they lock themselves inside, listening to blasts echo through the night. In morning, they step out to find cattle dead, walls shattered, property ruined. That’s on days when lives are not lost. They always maintained that they don’t migrate out because “it will affect the morale of armymen posted here”.

Two days ago, the entire town was evacuated. Like several others. They have all moved to camps in govt schools or relatives’ homes in Jammu city. Although every morning, they return to check on what remains of their homes before going to camps again.

I asked the family what they truly want from the ongoing escalation. Their answer - “Destruction of Pakistan. We are used to this suffering. We can bear it longer if needed - but this time, just finish the job.”

I understand North India and North Indian mentality a little better now.

These kind of assaults again and again for hundreds of years can do a number on the collective psyche.

They need healing from this kind of PTSD. Honestly I think the Ram Mandir and the Kumbh Mela had healed the spiritual wound that was a suppurating gash.

Before Modi, the country was still under the thumb of the same forces but just in invisible ways. He opened the door. He started the healing process.

You all have to continue. Meanwhile, a battle for civilisational survival is going on now.

If you are North Indian and a Hindu, my pranaams to your ancestors. They kept Sanatana Dharma alive for YOU against violence and brutality that we can’t even imagine today.

Now it’s your turn to keep it going for coming generations. Get rid of HINO dead weight that’s pulling us down. Recognise. Label. Cut them off. Let them be at peace wherever they want to go and want to be, but they can’t appropriate being Hindu and claim right to a voice. Too much has been sacrificed for Hinduism to survive today.

Remember your pitris. What they went through and how they never gave up their faith. They’d have rather died or suffered than convert. And so they fought. We are still fighting.
