News: Rolling Sea Action Fund—a PAC closely aligned with the Congressional Black Caucus—is spending $200K to boost Lauren Babb Tomlinson in CA-06, per a source familiar with the CBC’s plans.

Babb Tomlinson, a Planned Parenthood advocacy executive, could be the only Black woman running in a competitive House race this cycle and would face Kevin Kiley if she advances from California’s June jungle primary.

Kiley recently moved into the redrawn 6th District and switched his registration to independent while continuing to caucus with Republicans. CBC allies see the race as a key opportunity to elect a Black woman this cycle.

STATEMENT FROM OUR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR:

The Save America Act is a voter suppression bill and a direct attack on families like mine.

My wife and I met at a Democratic polling firm in 2016. We campaigned together in the midterms and postponed our wedding when the world shut down for COVID in 2020. Our friends had been lovingly combining our last names for years, so we took the legal leap to become the Grevenworths when we said “I do” in 2022.

Like millions of other women, we changed our last name when we got married to signify our love and commitment to each other. As a result, our birth certificates no longer match our legal names.

We are lucky and privileged to both have valid passports with our new last name — a lot of Americans are not in that position.

Read the bill yourself. The Republican Party is telling us exactly who they don’t want to see at the ballot box.
