@GreaterAKL I actually thought this was a newly released video and got so excited. Could cry that it still isn’t built. How can anyone see this and not agree this would have been perfect?
@Samhood8@BikeAKL To be honest, no - I would never choose to go somewhere like this, I would always choose a route near other people, even if it’s just the odd car passing by or houses along the way. Interested in what other women have to say though!
@BikeAKL Thoughts on safety/usefulness after dark for women? I always feel a bit sad seeing these projects get funding ahead of really good on-road cycleways, which have more eyes on the street providing safety/crime deterrence... a la CPTED principles... https://t.co/szTIFuomKf
@StuartBDonovan @DarbyatCouncil Yeah. I think cycle 'superhighways' in big cities get such high patronage because there are already eyes on the street giving that sense of security and backup, buildings surrounding, buses going past alongside...just safer. I don't think you'd get high patronage on this one tbh.
@StuartBDonovan @DarbyatCouncil Lighting still wouldn't persuade me - just too isolated. The CPTED principle of 'see and be seen' applies...some good examples in this link... https://t.co/szTIFuomKf
@StuartBDonovan @DarbyatCouncil Agree w @StuartBDonovan - I'd also add that cycle highways like this are not really useful for women after dark...I'd personally never use this to commute home after work in the dark. On road is always best and should be built first. Projects like this are just a 'nice to have'.
@richardhills777 Totally agree!
Please submit on our campaign for Light Rail on Dominion Road - we believe Light Rail would be the best option for everyone...

@progtwit Thank you for this John. Please do submit on the petition link below the article if you think Light Rail would be the best option for everyone!
@andersen_ellen @emmawehipeihana @NevakRogers@rnz_news Omg! Ever since the daily lockdown announcements, whenever @rnz_news comes on my two year old now exclaims “It’s the Prime Minister! Jacindadern!”
I helped out on this campaign for Light Rail for Dominion Rd in Auckland. I really believe that Light Rail is the future for this city, we used to have an amazing comprehensive tram network which got ripped up to make way for cars. Cars aren't working any more. Let's build LRT.
Light Rail down Dominion Road needs to be about connecting communities, not just about speed from the city to the airport.

@ScorpionWind@WomenInUrbanism That is true - feeder services would still be needed, even if we had a comprehensive LRT system across the city, to join the dots. What I meant was that I don't think Metro + feeder services would be as effective (catchment-wise) as simply implementing LRT.
