forgiveness isn't something you do - it's something you become. we think it's about the other person, about releasing them from debt. but that's just the surface. underneath, forgiveness is admitting that what happened to you is now part of you. the wound isn't separate from your flesh anymore. it's been absorbed. transformed. this is why Christ showed his scars after resurrection. not to prove he suffered, but to show that suffering had been woven into his glory. light doesn't erase darkness - it holds it. transforms it. this is what it means to be whole. not perfect. not unbroken. but large enough to contain all that has happened to you. large enough to carry your wounds like windows that let more light in.
The more I see of the world, the more am I dissatisfied with it; and every day confirms my belief of the inconsistency of all human characters, and of the little dependence that can be placed on the appearance of merit or sense.
