I think they have a few more years of storyline left in them to market it as end of and era a few years down line will be great to market this epic finale as end of and era.
Thats my take
I was already skeptical when they announced it was a musical thought I felt it was fascinating idea in the beginning too soon realising that's the worst decision #JokerFolieADeux
I had a miserable time with #JokerFolieADeux (🌟🌟). This film just didn’t need to be made & doesn’t really have a direction. At its core, this movie fails because the writing and story is weak. I didn’t like Gaga’s character, I wasn’t invested in Arthur Fleck, and I continue to find myself disconnected from Todd Phillips’s work. I just didn’t enjoy this film & don’t see a reason why it was made other than money.
The sequel to Joker finds Joaquin Phoenix returning as Arthur Fleck, in which his character is put on trial for the crimes he committed in the first film back in 2019. Lady Gaga plays Harley Quinn, the Joker's love interest, as the two meet in prison. The movie uses some musical components, and the Joker and Harley break into song throughout the film. The essence of the story is that Arthur struggles with his dual identity as a public figure & “failed comedian” which is a front for a man struggling with mental illness.
Visually, this movie looks fine- I think some of the technical aspects of this film are done well. Outside of that, there’s not much about the sequel to Joker I enjoyed. The musical numbers are atrocious- I hated the music in this film & wanted to fast forward nearly every musical piece. Gaga is totally misused in this movie in part because Phillips doesn’t know which way he wants to take this movie. It just feels like a story that has no direction.
There was an opportunity for this film to really embrace Arthur’s arc. I think there’s a world where this movie works if there’s less singing & dancing and less social commentary on police brutality and just more spotlight on Arthur to shed all expectations. Instead, we’re left with a film that tries to say multiple things at once but ends up saying nothing. And beyond all of that…I was bored! This movie just left me bored, I wasn’t entertained by the courtroom scenes or the singing and dancing and that made this film feel exceptionally long.
Lastly, I didn’t really like the Harvey Dent character in this film. The performance was fine, and maybe I’m doing too much comparing to The Dark Knight. But the way in which Dent was written in this film feels like a totally missed opportunity.
Not a fan of this film- there are plenty of good movies in theaters right now that I would recommend seeing over this.
