Three Florida Republicans were just charged with creating a fake voter guide to steal an election.

A three-time Olympian was handcuffed and held for five hours for touching the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. His crime: feeling a piece of paint that was already peeling off Trump's botched renovation.

This is what the most powerful government on earth is spending its time on.

David Hearn is 67 years old. He represented the United States at three Olympic Games in canoe slalom. On Friday, finishing up a 52-mile bike ride, he swung by the Lincoln Memorial to see the newly renovated Reflecting Pool everyone was talking about.

He noticed a piece of the new blue liner peeling off the bottom, reached in to feel it, and within moments was in handcuffs, arrested by U.S. Park Police on a charge of destroying government property.

"I didn't vandalize anything," Hearn said. "I didn't destroy or break or peel anything. By the time I realized what was going on, I was being put in handcuffs." He was detained for five hours. He has a court date in July.

His crime was touching paint that was already falling off on its own.

Because here is the part that turns this from frightening to farcical. The "vandalism" Trump is raving about is his own botched vanity project. He spent $14 million renovating the Reflecting Pool and dyeing it "American flag blue."

Almost immediately it was overrun with algae and the new paint started peeling and floating in the water. A Washington Post analysis found the pool now has more algae than at any June in the past five years.

So rather than admit his renovation failed, Trump invented a conspiracy. On Truth Social he declared that "vandals" had sabotaged the pool with chemicals, that it was "a true affront to both Presidents George Washington and Abraham Lincoln," and demanded "Years in jail!"

Then he deployed National Guard troops to stand watch over a swimming pool, against an enemy that does not exist.

There are no vandals. There is peeling paint, an algae bloom, and a president too vain to admit he botched the job.

So instead, soldiers guard a reflecting pool and a 67-year-old Olympian gets cuffed for touching it.

This is the tell of a small and frightened man. He cannot fix the pool, so he manufactures an enemy. He cannot take responsibility, so he sends in troops and arrests retirees to look strong. A grown man so terrified of looking foolish that he would rather deploy the military than admit the paint was cheap.

The pool is still green. The paint is still peeling. And the only thing the National Guard is protecting is Donald Trump's ego.

It turns out that painting the bottom of the pool dark blue to make it "prettier" had an unintended consequence your idiot Developer in Chief and his idiot "pool guys" who'd never coated a pool before never considered: the darker color heats the water extra fast, and the higher temperature speeds up algae growth.

So, not only did he fail to fix the one problem he set out to fix, but he also made the whole thing WORSE by being a arsehole.
