Visit Hokkaido for bicycling, culinary excellence and hot springs. We heartily welcome immigrants. Join us in making it a better place to live in & live for.
@pcteykea6kr Does he intend to live till over the age of a hundred years? If so, we would be fortunate enough to be able to read his future works for more than two decades from now. One of my deceased relatives lived for 106 years, being born in 1904, the year of the Russo-Japanese War.
Look at these apples I harvested in my garden in Sapporo today. They have grown on a space-saving variety named Meichan-no Hitomi (Little Mei’s Eyes) whose branches grow almost upright like a broom placed on the ground upside down. Today’s highest temperature here was 28.4℃.
@pcteykea6kr I am glad you resumed updating your posts after a prolonged intermission. I didn't know either of those scholars, so I am grateful for your letting me know them. Photo: strawberries in my garden. Grapes are ripening abundantly. Every single second in summer counts.

Dear bicycling friends in Europe and North America, the highest temperature here in Sapporo today, June 25, was 26.3 C (79.4 F). Do plan a visit to this island for hot springs and good foods by bicycle blown in the cool winds. See this: https://t.co/wVBZXmELgf.

I own a small bakery. Business has been slow. Rent is up. I was thinking about closing.
Last Friday, a teenager came in. He looked nervous. He counted out change for a cookie. He was short 50 cents.
"It's okay," I said. "Take it."
He ate it at a table, looking at his math homework. He looked stuck.
I used to be a math tutor.
I walked over. "Quadratic equations?"
He nodded. "I don't get it."
I sat down and helped him for 20 minutes. He got it. He left smiling.
The next day, he came back with two friends. They bought cookies.
The day after that, five kids came.
Apparently, he told the school, "The lady at the bakery helps with homework."
Now, my bakery is the after-school hang-out spot. It's loud. It's messy. There are backpacks everywhere.
Yesterday, I found a note in the tip jar. It was wrapped around a $20 bill.
"Thanks for helping my son pass math. A Mom."
I'm not closing the bakery.
I think I finally found my purpose.
It's not cookies. It's community.
