@cerealmilkxwrds If you “post on X” does it mean you are posting on the app-formerly-known-as-Twitter or does it mean you are posting while under the influence of ecstasy?
Like many intentionally confusing corporate crisis response messages, this says a bunch of things that are true but don’t mean what you think, like for example:
“On April 5, during a World Health Organization meeting, the GDF shared its intent to launch a tender for generic versions of SIRTURO® 100mg in the third quarter of 2023”
This sounds like it says “everybody can have generic bedaquiline!!” But actually they *had to allow* the production of a generic because some countries had the power and systems in place to reject their attempt to extend their patent. The generic will not be available in countries where the patent extension wasn’t rejected, just like John said in his video.
Unless that’s not the case @JNJNews!!
If you’re telling us that you will allow the sale of generics anywhere in the developing world then we will happily send thank you baskets to your entire c-suite! Please let us know! Maybe we got it wrong and you only did the arduous work of extending the patent in a bunch of developing countries for funsies!
Hi @JNJGlobalHealth 👋
You can do better than this PR response. You can do better than "not preventing access" to bedaquiline. You can continue to ship your drugs to those countries *and* allow generic versions to be distributed cheaply.
Patients over profits, yeah? Do better.
It is false to suggest—as some recently have—that our patents are being used to prevent access to SIRTURO® (bedaquiline), our medicine for MDR-TB.
In fact, we have already entered into a collaboration with the Stop TB Partnership’s Global Drug Facility (“GDF”)—the largest procurer of TB medicines—which enables them to invite potential generic suppliers and purchase generic versions of SIRTURO® 100mg. On April 5, during a World Health Organization meeting, the GDF shared its intent to launch a tender for generic versions of SIRTURO® 100mg in the third quarter of 2023: https://t.co/6m49h5g7tn
In addition, we have shipped more than 660,000 courses of SIRTURO® to 159 countries since launch. Our patents made this possible, enabling us to assist countries to scale-up their use of our medicine responsibly and sustainably and invest in multiple, critical, anti-TB efforts. For instance, in the face of rising drug resistance, we support stewardship efforts that ensure MDR-TB patients can benefit from our medicine today and in the future.
Unfortunately, the most significant barrier to treatment access for patients today is the fact that millions of patients with TB go undiagnosed every year. This is a challenge that we have invested significant resources to overcome and must all get behind if we are to achieve the global goal of ending TB.
Being a human is wild, my brain just told me to google “can pms make you feel on edge” like bitch you know the answer to this one, you do not webmd you back you up on it
