A&M President Kathy Banks made a unilateral decision without consulting students or faculty involved. Imagine how easy this could have been if she had a conversation with the stakeholders.
My introduction into journalism was as a page designer in @TheBattOnline’s basement newsroom.
This is devastating news and is a jarring demand that had no warning or prior discussion.
would also love to point out that print editions cost @tamu a whopping $0! the battalion pays @theeagle to use their printing presses each week. all newspapers are paid for by print ads sold.
our 130 year old student newspaper given a 24 hour ultimatum to relinquish all student org rights… this is a blatant attack on student organizing and free speech rights.
UPDATE: Per an email to The Battalion, President Banks has said she will allow the publication to print until the end of the spring semester, at which point the transition to digital will be made.
The Student Press Law Center's attorneys are working with @TheBattOnline to fight for their print edition. Show your support for student press freedom and tell @TAMU to reverse this decision.
I started at The Battalion as a trial page designer, and have since taken on the roles of design editor and business manager.
No "investment" in a program starts with demands like this. I look forward to designing our print edition coming out on Thursday, Feb. 17.
Texas A&M leadership orders The Battalion to stop printing weekly editions following abrupt ultimatum — join the university, or be stripped of resources, with only a day’s notice.

Traditions are what makes Texas A&M unique. It makes no sense why you would get rid of a cornerstone of our school for no apparent reason. Save The Batt @TheBattOnline
The Battalion has existed in print for 129 years.
A&M President Kathy Banks has been in her position for less than a year and is trying to stop the production of the over century old print product.
I have THE MOST love for Texas A&M, my coach’s, teammates, and anybody who has been a part of this process. From the bottom of my heart…Thank you to the 12th man🖤
