This month I’m drawing fictional black / black coded characters in support of #blacklivesmatter mostly from cartoons and games. I’ll post both positive and some pretty awful examples of black representation in media I’ve grown up with. #drawingwhileblack
Avatar characterization? Racial bias in design?
@kayodedesign's talk explores potential design complexities introduced when aspects of racial identity can’t always be assumed.
There isn't a one size fit all solution, but K discusses a few in this talk: https://t.co/QNvJaCjJkF
10yo- I want to be an animator
15yo- I want to be a game designer
20yo- I want to be a game designer
25yo- I am a game designer, but I want to quit and work part-time in a shop
30yo- I want to be a good game design teacher, despite a growing disillusionment with the industry
10yo- I want to be an Archaeologist! An Egyptologist!!!!
15yo- I am having the worst time of my life which means I want to be a therapist, duh
20yo- I want to make videogames!
23yo- it's time to either go ultra academic or anti academic or both. Books and mud.
Loved @Seemo's take on production as self care. The clearest distinction between project manager and producer roles I've heard. I think the industry is in dire need of making this approach to production more of a priority.
My #GDoCExpo talk is done! 😅 I was pretty nervous, but I'm happy that people in the chat seemed to enjoy the talk. The event has been really good again this year, so many motivating talks. I'm glad I was able to be a part of it. 💖
Following on with the theme of crafting spaces @fahmitsu give a really great reminder that representation is not just about humans, but also about the places, cultures and environments the humans live in and create. #GDoCExpo
Great talk by @ChellaRamanan about game houses. The approach of "shopping" for assets made me think of objects being sourced for set dressing for films. It's interesting that it's often seen as a taboo in games to use premade assets, but not (as far as I know) in film production.
.@FourbitFriday's talk on procedural generation at #GDoCExpo was great! I really need to find the time to start playing around with procedural generation.
