Thank you @MaestroPierre for doing such a documentary. Really touched to see it when some people linked me today.
A lot of the points about in game stuff I guess I can talk about in a bit more depth. I'm highly unlikely to go back to coaching any time soon so its not really a big deal.
A couple of clarifications though. I wasn't on MAD Lions in 2021, I left at the end of 2020 to go to EG. Also I didn't work on MtG at Hasbro, I worked with their board gaming department. But rest was mostly accurate.
However, I think his final couple of points in the video were interesting and on reflection I kind of agree. When I look back at my career with hindsight I think:
- My best role wasn't necessarily on stage, but more building systems, scouting and organizing/enabling others.
- There have definitely been times behind the scenes when people have criticised me for not being ruthless enough, especially with roster decisions (not saying Maestro is accusing this, just that he's right to mention it). However, I have no regret because that's always how I've preferred to run my teams. I think some amount of ruthlessness is good, but if you want players to takes risks they need to know you have their back (both inside the org and when facing fans).
