Born George Guy in Lettsworth, Louisiana, on July 30, 1936, he began learning to play the guitar using a two-string diddley bow he made. Buddy moved to Chicago in 1958 and worked as a session guitarist with Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, and more. Guy has influenced generations of guitarists, including Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Keith Richards, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jeff Beck, and John Mayer. Among Buddy Guy's accolades are 9 Grammys, Lifetime Achievement Grammy, the National Medal of Arts, the Kennedy Center Honors, and induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2005.
