The most obvious answer to this is nowhere in the top comments: many if not most grandparents nowadays still have full-time jobs. We have one of the oldest workforces in history, grandparents can’t be babysitters because they’re working the same hours as mom and dad.

This concept is so wild to me because it’s factually invalid;

In Louisiana a couple making up to $112k/yr will pay the same if not more in income taxes as their counterparts in California. Tax and COL burdens are higher on low and median earners in red states. Numbers don’t lie.
