In this edition of The Radical Voice, the EFF’s Rebecca Mohlala raises serious concerns about a recent visit by a public figure to a wanted fugitive facing fraud and money laundering charges. The article argues that this publicised visit—shared with praise on social media—undermines the rule of law, disrespects victims, and attempts to legitimise the evasion of justice.
-Let us be clear, Shepherd Bushiri is not a political exile nor a spiritual martyr. He is a fugitive who fled South Africa in violation of his bail conditions, leaving behind a slew of charges ranging from fraud to money laundering. These charges are not abstract legal claims. They are rooted in the financial exploitation of poor and working-class communities, people who were manipulated under the guise of faith and stripped of their resources by an individual who cloaked deceit in religious performance.
