@webdevcody It’s true. I’ve been humbled many times in the last few months. It wouldn’t feel so bad if I could actually place my finger on what can’t easily be commoditized by technology. All our assumptions were wrong about what machines could never do.
@mattpocockuk Please teach us! I would love 2-3 videos about how exactly you do this. Maybe even some skills to help us get started. But honestly just showing your setup would be enough. I would force my whole team to watch and follow.
@LawrenceDCodes Writing app code that runs on the client side, the server, and the database. Given the *existing* tech stack, can you take a feature from design to shipped without another app dev?
Not infra. Dev ops is a different thing. I'll die on that hill
@kentcdodds Build it once as fast as possible, cutting corners, all one file, spaghetti. Then throw it all out and rewrite it again. Don’t just refactor. Repeat as much as necessary. Your 2nd go around will be good. Your 3rd better. Your 4th or 5th will be a masterpiece
@adhdjesse This is what I say all the time, “not an excuse, but an explanation,” and my NT friends just stare blankly at me. Like they don’t know the difference. Is this just a ND idea? It makes so much sense to me, but doesn’t seem to be intuitive or maybe just not useful to other people.
@ADHDForReal Daughter gets a sticker sticks it to the closest flat surface and moves on. Son gets one and I ask where he’s going to put it and he thinks and thinks and while he’s thinking he fiddles with it and tears it and doesn’t realize it and then gets upset
Guess which one has adhd
@zachwritescode This is good advice. As someone who’s been on both sides of this, the “what will it take” offers always feel sleazy. Crazy story. Hope your new job works out well.
@astro_jaz So so so so so good. As a space nerd and a film nerd it was pretty much perfect. From Ryan Gosling’s understated performance, to the breathtaking cut to IMAX as they leave the capsule, to the focus on the impact it had on his family. 🧑🍳👌
@zachwritescode And yeah, of course break up the PR if you can. But knowing when to break is a skill that has to be learned. So that should be in your PR:
“This PR could have been broken up into 3 by doing A, B, then C. Let me know if you want to brainstorm how to keep the next one small”
@zachwritescode Look, if they hit you with a 1000 line PR, then a “quick call?” Is going easy on them.
I believe you need to make space for this. Sometimes big PRs happen. Sometimes you don’t know until you’ve already done it.
But if they’re doing that then they gotta be able to defend it
