January 2023 visa bulletin shows China and India EB-1 categories retrogressing. This means that a nobel laureate born in India must wait longer than a nobel laureate born across the border in Pakistan to get a green card. There's no valid rationale for this.
It took me 17 years to become a citizen – and that was when waiting times were shorter.
The EAGLE Act would move to a first come first serve system that would no longer discriminate by birth country, without harming anyone currently in the backlog.
Despite growing up in the U.S., kids whose parents came here on work visas — "documented dreamers" — face the prospect of self-deportation and other uncertainties when they become adults.

The EAGLE act, which would've removed the 100+yr wait for the US green card for ~750k Indians, was pulled from the House floor this week.
Had it passed, ~5-15k laid off immigrant tech workers in the US would be able to stay instead of being forced out in 2mos!
Here's why–

An unfortunate, but sadly, expected outcome.
While there’s a lot of outrage over how things have transpired, I intend for this 🧵 to be an informative exercise more than anything else- you may look at it as a rant as well:
I encourage Republicans in the House and Senate to Vote for #HR3648#EagleAct. This bill ends H1B abuse protecting Americans, it will drive wages up for all Americans, (1/2)
Great to see friends from @immivoice. I'm proud to cosponsor the Fairness for High-Skilled Immigrants Act. Skilled immigrants should be able to earn green cards in a timely manner, regardless of the country they came from—enabling them to further contribute to our communities.
Microsoft has long supported the #EagleAct and its core provisions of eliminating EB per country limits and improving fairness in the green card process. It’s critical for Congress to consider these issues and bring much needed relief to those facing these extraordinary backlogs.
As we mark #ImmigrantHeritageMonth, we thank @RepZoeLofgren @RepJohnCurtis for introducing bipartisan legislation to ensure equity in the green card process and ease the backlog. @Microsoft's success depends on our ability to attract and retain the world’s best and brightest.
We are proud to support the EAGLE Act and are continuing advocate for common sense immigration reform on behalf of our employees and their families. We urge Congress to pass the #EAGLEAct, lifting unfair per-country visa caps for employment-based green cards.
Intel strongly supports the passage of the #EAGLEAct to phase out “per-country limits” that are partially responsible for harmful, decades-long backlogs for high-skilled nationals of certain countries—including many valued Intel employees. https://t.co/ug5cYJrDPa
Immigrants from San Jose and the surrounding area rallied in front of @RepZoeLofgren's house to express their frustration about her not bringing EAGLEAct to the floor for a vote. Now is the time to pass #EAGLEAct@RepZoeLofgren

We need to reform the H1-B system and give people who contribute to this country a chance to become permanent residents. This unjust system is why we won't be relevant as a country of destination for skilled talent if we keep things the way they are.
Consulates should be facilitating travel needs, not making people wait over a year, especially when they are just renewing the same visa and have been contributing to US businesses and the economy
